Standards Manthan* – Discussion on IS 5405:2025

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Noida Branch Office organized a Standards Manthan on *IS 5405:2025 – Disposable Sanitary Napkins. The event was attended by licensees, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and students affiliated with BIS Standards Clubs.
The event began with a welcome address by *Mr. Vikrant, Director and Head, Noida Branch Office*. He emphasized the importance of ensuring high levels of hygiene, safety, and quality in products related to women's health and dignity. The event was coordinated by Mr. Rasujit Chongdar, Assistant Director/Scientist-B, Noida Branch Office.
A detailed technical presentation was given by Mr. Dharamveer, Scientist-D (Textiles Department) and Chairman of the relevant Sectional Committee, detailing the key amendments to IS 5405:2025. The presentation discussed the manufacturing and performance requirements for disposable sanitary napkins, panty liners, maternity pads, and period panties, as well as new testing standards and updates to product classification.
The program also invited comments on the biodegradable aspects of the standard, highlighting the importance of environmentally friendly materials and waste management.
Participants were also informed about the BIS CARE app, through which consumers can lodge complaints about products without the ISI mark, promoting consumer protection and standardization compliance.
Finally, an interactive session was held in which participants shared their field experiences, challenges, and suggestions. This brainstorming session yielded useful suggestions for effective implementation of the standard, improving product quality, and further strengthening safety compliance.
The session concluded with an appreciation for BIS's continued efforts to promote consumer awareness, industry collaboration, and quality standards.
