Celebrating Consumer Rights: Manak Mahotsav 2025 at Ghaziabad
On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day on 21st March 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ghaziabad hosted Manak Mahotsav at SK Kylde Hotel , bringing together industry professionals, educational institutions, and community representatives for a day of awareness, creativity, and collaboration.
Understanding Consumer Rights
World Consumer Rights Day is observed annually to raise awareness about consumer rights and empower individuals to make informed choices. In a market-driven economy, understanding consumer rights is essential—ranging from the right to safety, to be informed, to choose, and to be heard. Campaigns like "Jago Grahak Jago" have played a pivotal role in educating the masses about these rights and responsibilities.
Highlights of the Event
The event saw enthusiastic participation with several interactive stalls set up to engage and educate attendees on the importance of consumer awareness. Among them, two stood out—represented by students from IMS Noida on behalf of:
* Salaam Namaste Community Radio
* Ramprastha RWA
These stalls creatively showcased artworks and visual displays that highlighted BIS initiatives, various standard marks, and consumer rights. The message of " _Jago Grahak Jago_ " resonated strongly through the vibrant presentations.
The Salaam Namaste Radio stall was particularly unique, as it represented all eight consumer rights through well-designed posters that not only explained the concepts but also effectively raised awareness among the visitors.
Cultural Performances and Engagement
To further drive the message, the event included cultural programs and nukkad nataks (street plays) that emphasized the importance of being vigilant and informed consumers. These performances added an engaging and emotional touch, ensuring the message reached audiences of all ages.
Felicitation and Training
The event also recognized the efforts of participants and contributors. Industry professionals, RWA members, and educational institutions were felicitated for their active involvement. Special appreciation was extended to the volunteers from Salaam Namaste Radio, who were honored by BIS officials for their commendable work in consumer education.
Following this, an insightful training session on the Youth-to-Youth Campaign was conducted by Mr. Priyanshu Jee, Standard Promotion Consultant at BIS Ghaziabad. The session emphasized the role of youth in spreading awareness and building a culture of standardization and informed choices.
Conclusion
The event concluded on a high note with participants sharing their experiences and learnings, followed by the distribution of the Quality Connect Campaign kit to students.
Manak Mahotsav 2025 was not just a celebration but a powerful reminder of the rights we hold as consumers—and the responsibility we share to stay informed, aware, and proactive.
