On February 9, 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a Consumer Awareness Program at the Senior Welfare Association, Shipra Suncity, with the support of its outreach partner, Salaam Namaste Community Radio. The event aimed to educate senior citizens about the importance of standardization, hallmarking, and consumer rights.

Welcoming the Guest

The program commenced with a warm welcome for Mr. Priyanshu Jee, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS Ghaziabad, who was the chief speaker of the event. He was honored with a token of appreciation by esteemed Senior Welfare Association members—Mr. Avinash Dave, Mrs. Shaili Kapoor, and Mr. Yogendra Singh—on the dais.

A Melodious Start

The event began on a musical note with an enchanting instrumental performance by Mr. Anil Kumar, followed by a soulful singing performance by Mr. KK Tripathi, adding a vibrant energy to the gathering.

Informative Session on Standards and Consumer Awareness

Taking the stage, Mr. Priyanshu Jee delivered an insightful session on the importance of standards, different standard marks like ISI mark, Hallmark, and the role of BIS in consumer protection. He also introduced the BIS Care App, which allows consumers to verify certified products and register complaints, ensuring quality assurance.

Interactive Q&A Session

To make the session more engaging, an interactive Q&A round was conducted, where attendees had the opportunity to clarify their doubts regarding standardization and consumer rights. The session provided valuable knowledge and helped participants understand how to identify certified products.

Slogan Writing Competition and Felicitations

A slogan writing competition was organized, encouraging participants to create impactful slogans related to BIS, standard marks, and consumer safety. The winners—Mr. Yogendra Singh, Mr. VK Jain, and Mr. Anil Kumar—were honored with certificates and medals for their creative contributions.

Appreciation and Closing Ceremony

All dignitaries on the dais were appreciated with tokens of recognition and medals, while all members of the Senior Welfare Association received certificates of appreciation for their enthusiasm and participation. The program concluded with refreshments and positive feedback from the attendees, highlighting the success of the awareness initiative.

A Step Towards Informed Consumerism
