BIS Workshop
Salaam Namaste Radio actively participates in outreach programs to spread awareness on crucial topics. On 6 October 2024, the team of Salaam Namaste went to Ashiana Upvan, Indrapuram to attend Consumer Awareness Workshop by Bureau of Indian Standards (Under Ministry of Consumer Affairs).

The event started with the sweet voices of children of Shakti Path Foundation. The speech by Mr. Priyanshu Sir was the wisdom of the day in which he informed the people about Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Indian Standards Institution (ISI).
Highlights of the speech:-
Established in 1947, ISI was renamed as BIS in 1986, with head office in ITO Delhi and several centers in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, etc.
The duties of BIS includes establishing standards, hallmarks, registration mark and supervising module of the product, origin of the product, manufacturing process, packing, methods of testing, providing licenses after verification, post licensing supervision etc.
Example; drinking water bottles have mandatory guideline to “crush the bottle after use”.
Indian Standards are available to read free of cost to the consumers. To make consumers more aware, BIS launched BIS Care App in 2021 to verify products using the app. Its key features are:
• Search and verify products
• Check ISI and Hallmark certification
• Lodge complaints
• Access Indian Standards
• Get updates on product recalls
.No personal information is not required
The speech was followed by the BIS pledge that everyone undertook and promised to adhere to it.
The guests were honoured and the children were fecilitated.
It was then time for witnessing the wonderful efforts by NGO
Mrs. Priyanka Rai ma’am with the topic “ISI Marks” and Mrs. Deepti ma’am with the topic “Jaago Grahak Jaago” conveyed very strong message through a poem that tells importance of BIS, importance of being aware about the products, consumer rights, etc.
Children of Neerja Footpath shala performed a Nukkad Natak to aware people about Consumer Awareness and encourage people to always ask for printed bill to protect themselves from fraudulent sellers. Nukkad Natak promotes knowledge about Hallmarks and printed bills, how to use BIS Care app to verify the hallmarks and products’ originality as it is our duty to always check Hallmarks on product and verify it through BIS Care App. A special performance by the duo of Mother and daughter conveyed Generation Manak Hindustaan message.
The event was succesfully concluded with the beautiful singing performance by a child of Shakti Path Foundation.
